Waiting for a video download?
In my sales training, I was taught to avoid doing anything that may, in any way, alienate a prospective customer.
Does anyone doing video marketing and presentations realize that over 35% of American homes still lack access to high-speed (broadband) connections according to the most recent reports I could find.
Even more simply refuse to pay the highest rates in the world for the slowest speeds. The National Broadband Plan or Denial of Service
If you are one that is still stuck with a dial-up connection, or have chosen to cut-back on some household expenses, how do you react to having to wait for some video to download so you can just get a sales pitch?
I recently came across a promotion being done by one of the Internet marketing giants that had only a video. It was 36 minutes long! All to just get some information that amounted to an introduction to a new program they were launching.
I have no idea what they were offering. It could have been $20 bills for $0.25, and I missed out for all I know.
I know we are all being told the search engines love videos and it is a way to get high search placement in a hurry.
My question has to be what is it really worth to you if you are taking the risk of immediately losing over half of the population of the US alone?
All of us learn in different ways. I am one that much prefers to read at my own pace and review what I might be confused about. I can also skip over what I am not interested in.
Not so with a video. Sure, I can pause it, but with most downloads I have found I cannot fast-forward over the boring, uninteresting, or the parts I do not need to hear, again.
I would strongly suggest to all using videos for your presentations, sales pitches, training, and what-not, it might be well worth your time to publish your script for those of us that may not possess the patience to deal with you reading to us.
I don’t care how cute, or charming, you think you might be, either.
